Bharewa Art

Bharewa art is practiced in the Betul district of Madhya Pradesh. At its core is the lost-wax casting process—a 4,000-year-old technique that involves creating a wax model, encasing it in clay, and then melting the wax away to form a mold into which molten metal is poured.

This traditional method is famously known as Dhokra art and is found across West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.

We hosted a live show on 27th July 2025 with Akash Baghmare and his team from Tigariya village in Betul. Akash's father is a renowned Bharewa artist who played a pivotal role in preserving the craft and in helping Tigariya gain recognition as a craft village. One of his creations was even presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Watch the recording of our show to explore the history, authenticity, and timeless design of the Bharewa art form.
